Frequently asked questions about propane cylinder refills

Mazout & Propane Beauchemin’s network of refill locations lets you have 20, 30 and 40 lb cylinders filled at local partners, with quality propane distributed under the highest safety standards. The interactive map on the website shows the nearest location.
Refilling is usually the better deal. You keep your own cylinder, pay only for the gas and often get more propane than in pre-filled exchange cylinders. And at a Beauchemin partner, you are supporting a local business.
In Canada, a cylinder must be requalified or replaced 10 years after its manufacture date, stamped on the collar. Past that date, refill locations are no longer allowed to fill it. Check the date before BBQ season.
Yes. The common 20, 30 and 40 lb formats used for travel trailers, camping, patio heaters and outdoor fireplaces are easily refilled at Beauchemin’s partner locations, whatever the season.
No. In Quebec, only a trained, certified attendant may fill a cylinder. It is the law, and it is your safety. At Beauchemin’s partner locations, filling is always done by qualified staff.
Yes, it is a normal physical phenomenon. When gas is drawn quickly (a BBQ at full power, a patio heater), the propane evaporates and cools the wall, which can frost over. Reduce the flow or let the cylinder rest and everything returns to normal.
Always carry it upright, valve closed and capped, secured so it cannot tip, in a ventilated vehicle. Drive straight to your destination and never leave a cylinder in a hot vehicle.
Never put it in the garbage or recycling. Beauchemin and its partner refill locations take back expired cylinders. You can also bring it to an authorized ecocentre, where it will be emptied and recovered safely.
Yes. We have about 10 partner refill locations. 40 lb cylinders are accepted, and the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu depot also offers on-site filling. Beauchemin and its partners can also take back expired cylinders.
